Castillo de San Marcos, St Augustine Florida, is a masonry star fort made of coquina (Spanish for "small shells"), that bonded together to form a sedimentary rock quarried from Anastasia Island. Construction of the fort began on October 2, 1672, and lasted 23 years, completed in 1695.
